Thimphu
Thimphu - Before the year of 1960 Thimphu was a group of ethnic Bhutanese villages, in 1952 the 3rd King of Bhutan “ Jigme Dorji Wangchuk” has taken a decision to shift the Royal Capital from “Punakha” to 70 km away at “Thimphu” and finally from 1960 onwards Thimphu became known as the new capital of Bhutan and the Royal palace was built at the North side of Thimphu city.
Paro
Paro – This is a calm and quiet town of Bhutan near Thimphu, settled in the valley of Paro with some historical buildings throughout the area are examples of excellent art of Bhutanese traditional architecture. Before 1962 Paro was the hub of Bhutan’s cultural, Commercial, and Political activities .now it is the most attractive place for visitors in Bhutan for its picturesque surroundings also it is famous for its only International airport in the country.
Punakha
Punakha – It is a fertile valley between two rivers named Fo-chu and Mo-Chu. The coronation ceremony of Bhutan’s first King “Ugen Wangchuk” has been done here in “Punakha Dzong” at the year of 1907 it was the capital of the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan until the capital was shifted to Thimphu, now it is a visiting destination for tourists for its heritage capital setup and Dzong(Fort) and natural beauty.
Taksang
Taksang – Taksang Monastery also known as “Tigers nest” is situated on a cliff side of the upper Paro valley and was built in the year 1692 it is very sacred to the Vajrayana sect of Buddhism. Bhutanese peoples believe that “Guru Padmasambhava” flew from Tibet riding on the back of a tigress to arrive this place in Bhutan, one of the famous festivals of Bhutan “Tsechu” is organized here every year during the month of March or April following Bhutan’s National calendar.
